Have you seen the graphic that reads "Keep Calm and Carry On"? It's really popular on tote-bags here in Portland. It was designed as an inspirational message by the British government during WWII, and has recently been resurrected as a twee, smug sop to the harried lifestyles of harried middle-class consumers. It drives me up the wall: as far as I'm concerned, keeping calm and carrying on is the reason that everything continues to get steadily worse. Here's my response.
