Katie Kaplan
Work Pants
$35
Katie Kaplan, a former student of Justseeds Mary Tremonte and Shaun Slifer created this print as a benefit to raise funds for an upcoming trip to Brazil. Katie will join Mary and Heather White to work in the favelas of Niteroi and Vitoria to teach silkscreen printing to young people in hopes that they would use this tool to create change in their communities. (Change meaning activism through printed material, community building, decoration of the favelas, as well as new sources of income).
Katie currently attends Pratt and is invested in the practice of art as a catalyst for social change. Cut from rubylith and using actual lace, this print explores the image of the work pants as both an empowering symbol of androgyny and an emblem of the working class.
