Arena is a new journal put together by Stuart Christie, the founder of Cienfuegos Press in the UK back in the 1970s, and publisher of the great Cienfuegos Press Review. For this initial issue, he has pulled in guest editor Richard Porton, author of Film and the Anarchist Imagination, one of the few and best books out dealing with the intersections of anarchism and the moving image. This issue includes ten far reaching articles, split into historical and contemporary material. Inside are pieces on anarchist cinema during the Spanish Civil War, anarchist film festivals, the French Cinema du Peuple Cooperative, Armand Guerra and the Spanish Union de Cooperativas cinematograficass espoñolas, a critical look at the film Libertarias, a piece on Copwatch LA, and more. In addition, the journal contains multiple illustrations by Justseeds artists Alec Icky Dunn, Molly Fair and Josh MacPhee.
