These exuberant critters are Wolpertingers, a cryptozoological creature said to inhabit the Bavarian forests in Germany, similar to a jackelope. Stuffed Wolpertingers, made out of the parts of various animals, are a popular mascot at corner bars.
I made this print for a show my friend Jackie McDowell curated, called Strangely Familiar: Uncanny Works on Paper, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Wild Card, a great local handmade goods store in Justseeds' neighborhood of Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh.
Each print is silkscreened and cut by hand.
