This graphic was originally designed for a 2010 Mayday concert in West Philly. I wanted to capture/combine some of the many rich strands of radical history of this neglected (at least in the U.S.) holiday- from it's origins as a celebration of the coming of spring to the pagan Beltane to the Haymarket martyrs to the current May 1st immigrants' rights marches.
The brown outline of the letters is created by the overlap of the green & red screens.
