Sylvia, a Puerto Rican and Venezuelan transwoman from New York City, was a civil rights activist involved with the Young Lords and Black Panthers, took part in the Stonewall Riot in 1969, and was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front.

Artist John Gerken has lived in New Orleans for years and is the author of the popular zine I Hate this Part of Texas.
