Delia Kovac is an artist and creative culture advocate from Providence, RI. Her work navigates between abstraction and representation and is often made through a combination of humble jerry-rigged ingenuity and finely honed professional techniques. She earned a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers University. She has worked in professional fine art print shops on three continents including the Singapore Tyler Print Institute and the Brodsky Center in New Brunswick, NJ. Delia is an occasional correspondent for Printeresting.com, a Board Member of Girls Rock! Rhode Island, and an advisory committee member of Equity Action, Rhode Island's fund for sexual orientation and gender identity.
The piece: New Links draws on collaborative conversations with Emmy Bright about the importance of the queer/feminist life of the mind. The print is a jumble of portraits of some of the people who connect me to a larger creative and intellectual world: A.L. Steiner, Elizabeth Grosz, Audre Lorde, Sarah Lucia Hoagland, Sarah Schulman* and others. Along with the portraits there is a Monique Wittig quote that has followed me most of my adult life, which reminds me that building connections and newness is much more important than being right. (*look them up, they are geniuses.)
