MUSHROOM time!

Tonight I found many pounds of fresh Oyster Mushrooms that were growing on the same tree as the tree we harvested many nights last year. Halloween weekend is a great time in RI to hunt the delicious beast.

My top two reasons for hunting edible mushrooms:
The amazing taste
Knowing that the second largest contributor to greenhouse gas emission is from transportation costs- most of which is food based (the first largest contributor is the Meat industry).

I've heard it said that oysters harvested in the autumn are the best of the year...

A friend just brought 70lbs of Maitake, or Hen of the Woods, mushrooms to market yesterday!

They are my FAVORITE and so incredibly beautiful.
One of them weighed 22lbs!

been eating foraged mushrooms he's been scavenging for the last few weeks=heaven!!
