If your in Chicago, stop by Gallery 400 at UIC this Monday, February 15th. I am giving a talk from 6:00pm-8:00pm based on the essay that I wrote for the Art Work publication by Temporary Services.
The talk will provide an overview of the Artists’ Union and the American Artists’ Congress, two leading voices for radical artists during the 1930s. Both organizations responded to the Great Depression and the rise of fascism with collective action, purposefully aligning themselves with working class labor movements. The lecture will segue into an open discussion about how artists are addressing the present-day economic crisis.
