Nestled inside the word compassion are two other words, compass and passion, making it the only word I know of to contain it's own how and why. Compassion may seem inert, but in it's own secret and stealthy way, it is quite powerful, able to melt our jaded edges to reveal our humanity. It might seem old fashioned, but it's birthed again each day, with every tiny, helpless human that doesn't die. Compassion is not pity, or charity. It is not popular and won't work for an excuse. Compassion might seem obvious, but it's rare to find it. If you do, pass it along.
